Albis opens compounding plant in China

Hamburg, Germany-based compounder Albis Plastic GmbH has opened its first plant in China, in Changshu, with a capacity of 10,000 metric tons annually.

The company said in a statement that held an inauguration ceremony Aug. 12 for the 10 million euro factory. It aims to supply its Altech and Alcom brands to automotive, electrical, consumer products and appliance manufacturers, among others.

The plant joins Albis facilities in Hamburg and Zülpich, Germany, and Manchester, England.

“The inauguration of the fourth compounding plant is a significant step in the internationalization strategy of Albis,” said CEO Jörg Schottek, in a statement.

The company said the 5,000 square meter facility has space to be expanded. At the Chinaplas 2012 trade show in Shanghai, a company executive said it could eventually add production there for its Tedur linear polyphenylene sulfide and Alfater XL cross-linked thermoplastic vulcanizate lines.
Initially, production will focus on European transplant customers but the company said it hopes to grow a base of local Chinese customers. The company reported sales of 753 million euros in its 2012 business year.
